How on earth do you get the capital talking about cancer?
Cancer is one of the UK’s biggest killers, claiming more than 160,000 lives every year. Yet survival rates for those who catch the disease early are as high as 90%. Our challenge from London Health Board was to create a behaviour change campaign to help Londoners spot the signs and report to their GPs as soon as possible. Our solution was ‘Get To Know Cancer’.
The campaign’s resolutely positive communications were brought to life with uplifting messages, powerful quotes and photography of Londoners who are winning their own battles with cancer. We also created a ‘pop-up-shop’ advice centre, which appeared in many places across the capital, providing a safe space for people to have their questions about the disease answered by experts and some of the Londoners featured in the case studies.
The campaign received huge support from many sources, including The Mayor of London and Tottenham Hotspur FC. Get to Know Cancer also received fantastic media coverage, including a slot on London Tonight. And best of all it inspired hundreds of volunteers to support the pop-up-shop, and take the fight against cancer out into their communities.
